Technical Manager, Transit and Rail Systems
Pamela McCombe is the Manager of Safety and Security for the SunRail Commuter Rail System in Florida. She has over 30 years of experience in bus and rail systems. She received her undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering in 1983, has a Master’s degree in Transportation Engineering and is a Certified Occupational Safety Specialist. Pamela is a licensed Professional Engineer and was a Transportation Safety Institute Instructor for 14 years. She was also a member of the Transit Rail Advisory Committee for Safety appointed by the Secretary of Transportation. Pamela started her career at the Toronto Transit Commission, Canada in 1985 and moved progressively through the ranks from Service Planning, Finance, Engineering, Land Development, Environmental Compliance and then to Manager of Safety. In St. Louis, MO, she was the Manager of Bus and Rail Safety for Bi-State Development Agency. Pamela managed system and operational safety as well as safety certification for the light rail extension. When Pamela moved to the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority in 2001 as the Director of Safety, she initiated and implemented many initiatives with success. Some notable achievements are the recipient of the APTA Gold Award for safety for 2009, 2010 and 2011, and the first safety and security certification of the Euclid Corridor Bus Rapid Transit System. Engineering controls were also implemented with verifiable success for rail grade crossing collision improvements and for Roadway Worker safety. At SunRail, Pamela completed the safety and security certification for Phase 1 and is now conducting safety and security certification for Phase 2.
